In the 1980′s Rammellzee mutilated microphones double clutch style, harder and rawer than most mc’s of that era. As ruff as Coldcrush, as raw as The Herculoids.

Today we have Stones Throw’s infamous Metal Face Doom baffling an unsuspecting new school hiphop audience with his supervillain antics and microphone wizardry.

Turn the clock back 25 years plus and find an even more complex masked man in the making, in the form of Rammellzee.

Rammellzee’s mic skills are the highlight of the movie Wildstyle for many trueschool fans. We see Rammellzee perform in the film and also with Toxic C1 live @ the Rhythm Lounge, with mentor and fellow artist the late Jean Micheal Basquiat. This classic footage is a close up view of just how hard Ramellzee really could rock the mic. It was 7 minutes of mainly freestyle and sometimes lyrical nonsense, but somehow that doesn’t seem to matter. As Rammellzee ruthlessly tears apart Billy Squier’s Big Beat for 7 mins with nothing but raw edged funk.

The Ramellzee is not a separation of mcing from b boying or b boying from graffiti art, or graffiti art from mcing. The elemental forces of this myth science equation amount to 5 and 5 is 1, the Rammellzee is the equation.
