7th February 1949 - 2002 Brother of August Darnell (aka Kid Creole of Kid Creole and the coconuts) and founder of Dr Buzzard’s Original Savannah Band.

Stoney Browder mixed carribean sounds with disco, RnB, and 1940’s big band into a sophisticated fusion known as Dr Buzzard’s Original Savannah band.  A sound that was maybe ahead of it’s time. The amazing voice of Corey Daye was the icing on the cake of this distinctive sound.  In the 1st line of their 1976 classic Cherchez La Femme, Daye sings of the bands then manager, the notorious Tommy Mattola.

Stoney Browder’s sound was a pre cursor to Kid Creole and the Coconuts, Gichi Dan (Darnell Cohort), and Coati Mundi who had commercial success with “Me No Pop Eye”. Coati Mundi appeared in the Savannah Band as Andy “sugar coated” Hernandez and Don Armando’s 2nd Avenue Rumba Band. Browder’s half brother, August Darnell, went on to further commercial success as Kid Creole, but the Zoot suited Haitian pimp style concept was directly influenced by Browder’s Savannah Band 5 years previously. Tracks like Sunshower, Cherchez la Femme, Transistor Madness remain all time classics. Savannah Band material has been covered and sampled by a diversety of artists from Gloria Estefan to Wu Tang’s Ghost Face to most recently, M.I.A.
